Transition Technical Assistance CentersA five state cooperative project to improve transition services for students with disabilities
The TTAC Project is funded by Special Education Programs, OSERS, US DOE, OverviewThe University of North Carolina at Charlotte is working with LEAs in five different states that are serving as Transition Technical Assistance Centers (TTACs). The TTACs are designed to assist other school systems to improve and expand their own community's transition services. Each TTAC is a local school system that is implementing a comprehensive system of transition services based on a proven model called TASSEL (Teaching All Students Skills for Employment and Life). Technical assistance will be provided by the combined expertise and resources of each TTAC, Project Advisory Board members, and the UNC Charlotte Project Staff. The TASSEL model is designed to assist all students with disabilities in making a smooth transition from school to adulthood. The model is designed to provide students with options within their educational setting to assist them in meeting their chosen post-secondary goals for employment, living arrangements, education, and recreation/leisure activities. ![]() The TASSEL model centers around student-centered transition planning supported by assessment of student abilities and interests, interagency collaboration, and appropriate school and community experiences for meeting post-secondary goals. TASSEL provides all students with disabilities the opportunity to choose their own course of study. Students who wish to pursue post-secondary education can pursue an academic course of study, while students wishing to enter employment after graduation may choose an occupational course of study. The TTAC project is a three year grant awarded to the University of North Carolina Charlotte by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.
